Berlin

If you’re thinking of jetting off to Berlin this year, I’ve got some tips and ideas to make the most out of your trip!

The history and culture of Berlin make it one of Germany’s most desirable focal points. You’ll need to spend more than just a couple of days in the capital city to take it all in. So to get as much out of your trip as possible, I thought I’d share a few treasured places to see and things to do while visiting the prominent metropolis. Here are 5 tips to help make your trip the best it can be.

Get to know the city

Mornings in Berlin are quite busy. The first thing you’ll want to do is grab a hearty breakfast before heading to Reichstag, the nation’s architecturally pleasing parliament building. Get breathtaking views of the city after hitching a free ride to the terrace.

Next, head on over to Tiergarten, where you can enjoy historical monuments and Germany’s first-ever Neo-Classical building, Bellevue Palace. Once you’re almost through the park, you’ll reach the magnificent Brandenburg Gate, a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust.

Now that you’ve had a rather insightful, solemn morning so far, go a little further than the park to check out the Berlin Cathedral to witness some of Germany’s most magnificent Renaissance and Baroque-style architecture.

Connect with locals

It’s time to see what Berlin’s natives are all about. Make your way to the city’s 13th-century public square, the quintessential Alexanderplatz. Nearly half a million people pass through the Alexanderplatz every single day. For a birds-eye view of the bustling city, buy a ticket and explore the top of the Berlin Fernsehturm.

If you find that you are through exploring and ready for a little late-night fun, the Alexanderplatz has a ton of lively bars and nightclubs; this is one of the most excellent ways to end the day in the city

Take advantage of the city’s attractions

There are many interesting sights and attractions in Berlin that you won’t want to miss. From museums to gardens, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here are the top 5 not-to-miss attractions:

  • Museum Island
  • Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
  • East Side Gallery
  • Berlin Wall Trail (don’t forget Checkpoint Charlie)
  • Charlottenburg Palace

Enjoy the city’s natural beauty

Berlin is a landlocked city, and that means you can enjoy the city’s beautiful landscapes without having to drive. From tranquil lakes and vast parks to outdoor sports and events, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful walk in nature or a fun day out with family and friends, head to one of Berlin’s many lakes or parks for a relaxing day out. My favorites are Britzer Garten, James-Simon Park (on Museum Island), and Körnerpark.

Make the most of your time

Visiting Berlin is an opportunity for travelers to experience a unique and vibrant culture, and the best way to do this is to take the time to savor the city. From exploring the numerous museums that offer insight into Germany’s rich history, to sampling the city’s delicious cuisine and taking part in lively nightlife events, there are many ways to make the most out of your holiday in Berlin. Taking time to relax and appreciate your surroundings can make all the difference in creating a memorable experience.
